This luxury ship will depart from Navy Pier and cruise by fabulous lakefront sites to reveal the beauty of Chicago as it transforms from dusk to evening. Drinks and dinner will be served. Although the ship and its dining areas are enclosed, be sure to bring appropriate outerwear! Chicago weather is unpredictable.

Register for the dinner cruise on the online registration form. There is no fee for the cruise, and roundtrip transportation will be provided from the hotel to the Navy Pier.

Small group dinners
Join your colleagues for informal discussion and networking at one of Chicago’s many fine restaurants. Small group dinners will take place Monday evening, Oct. 27. Just sign up at the conference registration desk. Participants pay for their meals.

2008 charity: School on Wheels
The Executive MBA Council has a tradition of supporting a local charity as part of its annual conference. The work of Schools on Wheels, the 2008 charity, will be highlighted at the conference in Chicago.

Schools on Wheels brings its traveling adult literacy program to Chicago residents via a specially equipped bus with 10 learning stations. More than 250 volunteer tutor adults, who on average read at the fifth-grade level.

Statistics from the program indicate that more than 40 percent of students who are served by the program haven’t completed the eighth grade; most cannot read basic signs or maps or complete a job application. The program proves successful: In a typical year, about 35 percent of students improve by three grade levels and 80 percent improve by one grade level.

In addition, Schools on Wheels also features the Tutors on Wheels program that offers free English-as-Second-Language classes to low-income minority immigrants in the Chicago-area community.

Look for opportunities during the conference to make a contribution to the Schools on Wheels traveling adult literacy program. For more information, visit www.schoolonwheels.com.
